December 21, 2023

Jacksonville, FL—Today, U.S. Congressman Aaron Bean (FL-04) visited Stanton College Preparatory School in Jacksonville to announce the winners of the 2023 Congressional App Competition (CAC). The Congressman presented the news to Victor Zhang, Arvan Thakur, Prithish Shan, and Alan Alwakeel in a surprise ceremony with school administrators, teachers, and Duval County leadership.

The students created an app called “GeoBlend,” which allows users to explore various historical sites around Jacksonville and interact with the city’s various points of interest in an immersive augmented reality experience.

“The Fourth District has so many innovative and talented students, and I am amazed by the ingenuity displayed in this year’s competition. Victor, Arvan, Prithish and Alan channeled their creativity using sophisticated coding software and technology,” said Congressman Bean. “Congratulations to all our applicants, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for the next wave of young innovators.”

Background

The CAC highlights the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education giving students an opportunity to hone their coding and technology skills. Middle and high school students from the Fourth District are eligible to compete in this annual competition.

This year’s winners will have their app displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building, featured online at the House of Representative’s website, and will be invited to a celebratory reception on Capitol Hill in honor of their achievement.
