Congressman Bean Stands for Election Integrity

February 11, 2026

WASHINGTON—U.S. Congressman Aaron Bean (FL-04) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 7296, the SAVE America Act. This legislation builds on the original Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act by requiring states to require proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections.

“One illegal vote is one too many. The SAVE America Act affirms this commonsense principle by requiring a photo ID and proof of citizenship for all new voter registrations. American voters are hungry for fair elections, and House Republicans delivered just that,” said Congressman Bean.

BACKGROUND

The SAVE America Act would protect and preserve the right of American citizens to vote by:

  • Requiring individuals to present an eligible photo identification document before voting. (NEW requirement)
  • Requiring states to obtain proof of citizenship – in person – when registering an individual to vote. (From original SAVE Act)
  • Requiring states to remove non-citizens from existing voter rolls. (From original SAVE Act)

NOTE: The SAVE America Act ensures that married women who have not yet updated their documents after a name change can still register and vote, including by signing an affidavit at the poll. States must also provide a clear process using a combination of existing documents, such as a birth certificate, U.S. passport, military ID, government-issued photo ID, and other forms of identification, to verify citizenship. No eligible voter will lose the ability to vote because of a name change.
