Bean, Nehls Take Action to Halt Antisemitic Attacks on Campuses
WASHINGTON—In response to the rise in antisemitic attacks on college campuses across the nation, U.S. Congressman Aaron Bean (FL-04) and U.S. Congressman Troy Nehls (TX-22) today introduced the House companion to U.S. Senator Marco Rubio’s (R-FL) Ending Subsidies for Pro-Terrorist Activities on Campus Act. This bill would prevent college and universities that are enabling antisemitic attacks from receiving taxpayer funding, specifically federal student aid.
“Today, we are seeing the full force of Jewish hatred on our college and university campuses. It’s unthinkable that students are unable to walk between classes to their dorms or the dining hall. But it’s the reality for Jewish students on campus today. Under no circumstance should taxpayers be funding toxic, hatred dogma anywhere on college campuses,” said Congressman Bean.
“It’s disgusting that Jewish students across the country are living in fear of pro-Hamas protesters,” said Congressman Nehls. “Thank you, Congressman Bean, for introducing this important legislation to combat antisemitism on college campuses. I will always stand with our nation’s greatest ally in the Middle East, Israel, and Jewish people across the world.”
“The last thing that students should be worried about is a threat to their safety. Shamefully, some students and faculty members are supporting an organization that has pledged to commit violence until Israel no longer exists. Our tax dollars should not be funding antisemitic, pro-terrorist activities on college campuses. It is absolutely ridiculous that the government is subsidizing this. I thank Congressman Bean for joining me in this effort,” said Senator Rubio.
Background:
Following the October 7 Hamas Massacre, incidents of antisemitic harassment, vandalism, and assault across the United States have increased by 388%.
The Ending Subsidies for Pro-Terrorist Activities on Campus Act enacts effective solutions to combat antisemitism on campuses, including:
- Prohibiting federal funds from supporting any activity, by or in an IHE, that urges support for, endorses, espouses, encourages, organizes for, or promotes an FTO or its terrorist activities;
- Designating terrorist-related activity as an automatic disqualifier for federal student aid;
- Requiring IHEs to report to the public their policies to prevent and respond to unprotected speech on campus related to the existence of an FTO, a terrorist activity, or the goals of an FTO;
- Requiring IHEs to similarly report on their policies to combat antisemitism on campus;
- Requiring IHEs to report on their efforts to combat Title VI violations against Jewish individuals on campus;
- Requiring IHEs to identify faculty and staff candidates, as well as student applicants, who have engaged in terrorist-related activity; and
- Requiring IHEs to report to the Departments of Homeland Security and State instances in which a foreign student on an F, J, or M visa violates such new policies.
