Bean Calls for Action to Lower Health Costs for Americans

November 21, 2025

WASHINGTON—Today on the House floor, U.S. Congressman Aaron Bean (FL-04), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, urged Congress to take decisive action against skyrocketing healthcare costs. In the speech, Congressman Bean warned that Washington’s habit of pouring taxpayer money into broken programs has fueled America’s affordability crisis, driving prices higher and leaving families struggling to keep up.

Full speech, as prepared for delivery, is below:

Mr. Speaker, I rise to address the skyrocketing cost of healthcare. When President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act, he promised affordable coverage for all. Fifteen years and trillions of dollars later, we’ve gotten higher costs and less coverage.

Basic economics tells us that when government subsidizes the price, demand surges, and prices soar.

We’ve seen this movie before. Since federal student loans began 50 years ago, college tuition has risen four and a half times faster than inflation. When Democrats passed the “Inflation Reduction Act” and spent one trillion dollars on subsidies, inflation hit a 40-year high.

It's clear that pouring taxpayer money into our broken healthcare system will only drive prices higher. As we debate healthcare costs, the solution is not spending more. It’s time for real, market-driven reforms that allow for competition and consumer choice.
