Bean Bill to Reduce Burdensome Regulations on Small Businesses Passes Committee

September 10, 2024

WASHINGTON—Today, U.S. Congressman Aaron Bean’s (FL-04) bill to combat the out-of-control bureaucracy, which regulates thousands of small business owners out of business every year, passed the Committee on House Small Business. H.R. 9033, the Let American Businesses Be On Record (LABOR) Act, would require the Department of Labor (DOL) to hold panels with small business owners, as part of the Small Business Regulatory Enforcement Fairness Act (SBREFA), that will be impacted during the rulemaking process so that changes can be made before the rule is finalized.

“On top of record-breaking inflation and workforce shortages, the Biden-Harris Administration has piled over $1.6 trillion in burdensome regulations onto the backs of America’s job creators.  As a former small business owner, I know firsthand the burdens small businesses face, and I will work to remove obstacles hindering growth and job creation, instead of adding more,” said Congressman Bean. “My bill will ensure Main Street has an opportunity to weigh in on new regulations before they are implemented.”

BACKGROUND

  • Currently, only the Occupational Safety and Health Administration within DOL, along with the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau are required to conduct SBREFA panels.

  • The purpose of these panels is to hear directly from the affected entities as a rule is being proposed so changes can be made before it goes final. Small Business Republicans recently uncovered that the DOL is one of the federal government’s worst RFA offenders.
