Congressman Bean Strengthens Investigations of Medicare and Medicaid Fraud
WASHINGTON—Today, U.S. Congressman Aaron Bean (FL-04) introduced H.R. 9645, the We Want Our Healthcare Money Back Act of 2024 to investigate fraud within the Department of Health and Human Services public healthcare programs. Specifically, this legislation would require the Office of Inspector General for HHS to submit a quarterly report to Congress providing detailed updates concerning the ongoing fraud investigations of Medicare and Medicaid programs.
This anti-fraud legislation comes after the Comptroller General of the United States testimony before the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations estimated that Medicare and Medicaid programs had over $100 billion in improper payments.
“Every dollar stolen from taxpayers is one dollar too many. As the Inspector General continues to investigate healthcare fraud, waste, and abuse, Congress must be kept apprised of the extent of the fraud and the progress in resolving the ongoing cases. My bill is a commonsense step toward better protecting taxpayer dollars and ensuring these critical resources go to those who need it most,” said Congressman Bean.
BACKGROUND
This legislation is supported by Americans for Prosperity and Council for Affordable Health Coverage.
